Dear gorgeous person, you!

One of the perks of being a blogger is that you get invited to so many lovely events. You meet amazing people you've never met before and experience things you otherwise may not have. Call me silly but I had absolutely no idea that Roller Derby was a thing in England. I genuinely thought only American girls of a certain age took it up as a hobby! I know, shoot me!

This week, I was privileged enough to be invited to participate in Roller Derby by This Girl Can - the campaign that encourages women of all shapes and sizes to just be them. TGC essentially reminds you that you're capable. You may have seen the ads on TV and online showcasing real women playing several kinds of sports and engaging in various physical activities.

These women aren't airbrushed, stick-thin models who don't even look like themselves after they've been air-brushed. They aren't athletic and obsessed with eating chicken and broccoli in-between doing hundreds of burpees at the gym. These women are real because they simply look like you and I.

Everything about TGC makes me wanna get on a roof top and scream YES YES YES! The message they convey is quite literally everything I stand for as a person and a blogger. It's a message to love the skin you're in. To remember that it's okay to be into fitness. It's okay to not be into fitness. It's okay to jiggle when you workout. It's okay to have a firm ass. Cellulite and stretch marks are cool too. If you didn't 'snap back' after your amazing body did this magical thing of having children (side note - why we as women are not worshipped for this one thing is still beyond me), nothing wrong with that. It's okay to be you. It's okay because you're human. A freaking amazing human woman at that!!!

Roller skating was freaking awesome. My lil cousin Kemi came along with me. We enjoyed it so much, we made a video blog. Please watch the video until the end as we head over to a food market and eat our guts out.

I'll leave you with this caption I posted for my Instagram video when I was doing press ups, a few days ago:

"This fitness thing, it's not a race or a competition. We'll all get there in our own time, at our own pace. Feeling pretty smug that I can now do 6 very good press-ups. Soon it'll be 10. Might take 1 week or 1 yr. Doesn't matter at all. I will continue to love my body all the same. Take your time. Do your thing. Eyes on your own work. It's not a competition.
